A-HA was a one-hit wonder, at least in the USA, where only “TAKE ON ME” received an absurd amount of MTV and radio display, to the point of becoming unbearable to ever listen again!!

In Europe, mainly int he U.K, thing were a little different, A-Ha being able to resist for more than five studio albums. BUt that was never a band to be taken seriusly. Other than the very good vocals, the ultra-pop-synth music is lifeless, industrial and toally electronic. That’s why they succumbed.

More on the light side of synth music. If you like erasure neuropa you’ll like this. Take on me is one of the happiest melodic songs ever.

I remember A-HA’s first apperance on Norwegian television back in 1984. Three youngsters with pretty faces and slick hair performing “Take on me”. I was not impressed. Playback and bad coreography ruined the overall impression. A year later I was a big fan and “Take on me” was number one in the USA. The album “Hunting High and Low” is by far the best album in their carreer. The sound is awsome and Morten Harket sings like a god. Totally addictive. This is the sound of the 80’s, and shows a band at it’s peak. By 1985 the members of the band still consentrated on making good music, but by the release of their second album the inspiration, harmony and cooperation was gone. Magne Furuholmen all of a sudden decided he wanted to be a painter, Morten Harket got involved with charity organisations and Wildlife organisations, and Paal Waaktaar entered a crisis and lost all inspiration. Buy “Hunting High and Low” an enjoy the original sound of A-HA. The way they should be remembered. The only reason why I don’t give five stars is because of the track “Take on me” which I never got to like. So this is really a four and a half stars.

what can i say about this album? hmmmmmm oh yeah i know GET IT ASAP! along with all of a-ha’s other albums. every single one is a masterpiece. but since this was their first one i decided to write a review for this one first. i am a proud owner of this album ad all of a-ha’s other albums. i have every thing on tape, reord, and cd. a little obbsessed no? well i actually buy extras all the time incase one of my albums break. ive spent hundreds of dollars on a-ha records, cds and tapes. its almost like an addiction. but the only problem is its super hard to find any other albums besides “hunting high and low” and “stay on these roads”. all of the others took me awhile to find. but i got most of them. anyways this has to be the best thing to come out of the ’80s especially ‘take on me’. the music video for that song kicks major butt. i wish i could see more of a-ha’s music video but thats the only one they’re really known for. oh well. i highly recommend you get this and all of a-ha’s other cds i mean they’re all right here on this website. so get moving and buy buy BUY!

A-HA is much better than some people think. This debut is very good, but suffered from two major flaws: the indecent, excessive exposing of TAKE ON ME, an amazing tune totally burned out by massive MTV and radio playing, and the slicky and acheesy production.
Even being totally synth-orientated, the album could have possessed more edge to its approach, because the songs are essentially very good and melodic. There was no need to such a openly commercial production.
