The most sad news about a-ha I have ever read:
Oslo – Norwegian synthpop group A-ha on Thursday announced that they will disband after a three-decade career following a farewell tour in 2010. “We have literally lived the ultimate boy’s adventure tale, through a longer, more rewarding career than anyone could hope for,” the group said in a statement on their website.
Formed in 1982, the group topped the US charts in 1985 with Take On Me, a single that swept them to fame and topped charts in two dozen other countries.
The trio – singer Morten Harket, keyboard player Magne Furuholmen and Paul Waaktaar-Savoy, guitarist and main songwriter – have sold almost 35 million albums.
They said their current album, Foot of The Mountain, would be their last, adding that as individual musicians they were not retiring and did not rule out future activities ranging from politics and humanitarian work to joining “new constellations in the field of art and music.”
